Local lore and legends speak of Tybee Island as a stopover for pirates, including the infamous Blackbeard. Begin with the SwashBucklers Bash on Thursday (October 6, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.), take to the beach or weave through the Thieves Market for a weekend of lively beach music. Dance a pirate’s jig and sing at the top of your lungs, even if you sound off-key or don’t know all the words. Pirates love to sing!
It’s a rip-roaring, long beach weekend on Tybee Island … all in great fun!
P.S. In readiness, try a little pirates speak — “Aargh,.” “Ahoy, mates!” and “Arr, me hearty”! Be ready for Tybee Island pirates by starting early on International Talk Like a Pirate Day — always celebrated on September 19! Here’s a “Talk Like a Pirate” translator!
