December 14-January 5: Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count

Field birders: Tybee Island is a location for Christmas Audubon Bird Count taking place throughout the Americas December 14, 2011 – January 5, 2012.

Monday, January 2, 2012,  the Savannah Area Christmas Bird Count starts at 7:00 a.m.  Info: Dot Bambach at 912-598-3764.

Audubon advises: “The count period for the 112th Christmas Bird Count will begin on December 14, 2011.   From December 14 through January 5 tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas take part in an adventure that has become a family tradition among generations. Families and students, birders and scientists, armed with binoculars, bird guides and checklists go out on an annual mission – often before dawn”

By land or water, we are near Fort Pulaski and Savannah.  More of Georgia’s Barrier Islands are easily accessible by water from Tybee Island.  By water Hilton Head Island and Daufauski Island, SC, are about 15-20 minutes away.
