December 13-14: Germinid Meteor Shower All Night

What a romantic night! … to be on Tybee Island’s flat beach and see December’s darkest night sky on the Atlantic Ocean beach.  One of four spectacular meteor showers in 2013 is the Geminid’s Meteor Shower December 13 – 14, 2013. Tybee Island beach is 18 miles east of Savannah, GA — about a 20 minute drive from downtown Savannah.

It will be in the northeast sky, 75 per hour, according to Farmer’s Almanac. These meteor showers can be seen starting early in the evening, such as around 9 or 10 pm, until morning twilight.

In general, most major meteor showers are best seen after midnight; some do not even appear until after then. Usually, a better time to see them is after 2 a.m., and the best time is about an hour or so just before morning twilight.
